Dear Parents,     I wanted to make you aware of the fact that there has been one confirmed case of chicken pox in the 8th grade.  Your child may have been exposed; it takes approximately 12-21 days for symptoms to develop.     Symptoms include eruptions on the skin consisting of spots resembling pimples which, within a few hours, become filled with fluid.  These areas dry and crust within 3-5 days.  The usual areas they appear on are on the trunk, under arms, then face and arms. Low grade temperature and runny nose may be present, most of the time the cases we see will be mild due to the use of the varivax vaccine that our students have received over the years.     Contact nurses office if these symptoms occur, students should remain home until last lesion crusts over, approximately 5 days. Thanks in advance for you attention.                                                                                        Dotty Picazio R.N.
