This year’s fifth grade Science class continues with Classifying Matter. The students explore the atom and have created models of atoms of their choice which can be found in room 205. We continue with the understanding of physical and chemical properties and their changes. The children will also investigate how electric current can split a water molecule into its elements and explore how materials combine and look for evidence of a chemical change. We will use the internet to complete a webquest– an online cooperative group learning experience involving interactive group activities on the computer to better understand these changes. |

My goal is to provide an environment where all students can progress to higher levels through differentiated learning. The children will be meeting with me in small groups, individually, and as a whole class at different times for different purposes. While they are not, they will be working independently or in small groups on language skill utilizing centers for writing, reading, and language that incorporate choices for authentic learning as well as multiple intelligences and learning styles. Flexible grouping allows us to address specific needs with individuals and small groups to monitor understanding more easily. Our new unit focuses on discoveries; about people and animals, architecture and a war memorial, the Caribbean culture, and cowboys. |
