Text Box: Welcome to a new school year! I am happy to be teaching both fifth and sixth grade again this year. This is my 8th year teaching at Immaculate Conception School after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from Kean University in 2003. Before attending Kean, I worked in quality assurance in the food industry, but teaching is what I always wanted to do and I’m very happy to be here at Immaculate Conception!
I am teaching sixth grade Social Studies and Language Arts/Reading, and fifth grade Social Studies and Math.

What we are doing now:
Recently the students researched a historical figure from our world history book. They have been instructed to write a biography, and the papers are due on Friday, January 20, 2012. This paper will be tied in with the “wax museum” taking place in the cafeteria on Sunday, January 29, which the Open House for Catholic School’s week. Stop by to see the historical figures come to life!
In Language Arts class, we are currently reading a novel, “One-eyed Cat.” It’s a Newbery Honor Book, set in the 1930s. We’re reading it in class together, with lots of discussion, and vocabulary work. Ask your son or daughter to explain the story as we move along.
One more note: I have been posting homework for both subjects on Power School. If you look on the subject page with your child’s grades listed, you’ll see homework posted at the top of the page. I have been trying to remember to post it every day!
Fifth Grade
In Social Studies class, every student was assigned a country of North America or South America to research. They were given instructions to follow, but most of the research and work involved will be completed in school, either with me during class time, or with Mrs. Gately in Library.
Currently in Math we will be working on an introduction to algebraic expressions, and will be working with fractions shortly after that.
