Students k-3:

Students will develop speaking skills through interactive games with a program “Sube”  that has a unique scaffolding approach which gently coaxes the speaking skills and builds confidence and self esteem in beginner students. This is an academic research based curriculum with a multisensory teaching system.

This proven technique accelerates learning by addressing the diverse learning style of each student (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, etc.) in every class. Themes in the unit integrate a series of multisensory activities that reinforce the vocabulary and skills.
Students at the Beginning proficiency level are able to:

• Comprehend high-frequency words and basic phrases in immediate physical, concrete surroundings
• Produce learned words and phrases
•  Use gestures to communicate basic needs
•  Interact with frequently used Spanish print in a limited fashion
•  Demonstrate initial Spanish print awareness
•  Write familiar words and phrases
•  Demonstrate understanding of familiar words, phrases and questions drawn from content areas
•  Follow classroom routines and schedules
•  Express basic personal and safety needs
•  Respond to questions with one- and two-word answers and gestures
•  Demonstrate and use basic social conventions

Students 4-5:

 

Students will be preparing for Junior High curriculum with “ En Sus Marcas” . This methodology is a balanced curriculum that provides opportunities to develop comprehension, speaking, reading and writing skills.  Students will comprehend information on familiar topics in contextualized settings and produce sustained conversation with others on a variety of general topics. In addition, they will interact independently with a variety of simplified print.

 

· 8th grade students will learn how to express feelings and emotions, irregular verbs, tenses, state preferences and discuss what just happened

· 7th students practice using verbs in sentences and discussing likes/dislikes, class schedules and food.

· 6th is will discuss likes and dislikes in conversations, describe others, describe clothing and will read about and discuss exchange students from Spanish speaking countries
