About Me: I have been teaching Health and Physical Education to children for 18 years; 2 years at St. Peter’s in New Brunswick, 10 years at Dunellen Public Schools, and 6 at ICS in Spotswood. I graduated from Trenton State College (now known as The College of New Jersey) with a Bachelors Science Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Driver Education in 1984. I am married and my wife, Theresa and I have 4 children and we have lived in Spotswood for the last 19 years. Soccer is a big part our lives right now.
Physical Education: Students have Physical Education once a week for 45 minutes. Appropriate attire for P.E class is sneakers, white socks that covers the ankles, school issued shorts, t-shirts, and sweats. T-Shirts that are affiliated with ICS are acceptable. If student needs to wear substitute clothing until a new school issued garment can be purchased, the school colors are navy blue and white. |

What we are doing now: In Physical Education, Grades 3 through 8th, students will be testing their speed and agility and flexibility by performing the 30 foot shuttle run and the v–sit reach. In the shuttle run, students will run 30 feet, pick up a bean bag, return to the starting line, place the bean bag down, run back to pick a second bean bag, and then return again to the starting line. Students will be given at least 2 tries and their faster time will be recorded. For the v-sit, students will have their legs straight and about shoulder width apart while sitting on the floor and they will try reach as far forward as possible with their arms straight and fingers fully extended. Both of these tests are part of the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge. If students want to repeat the tests to see if they can do better they will be allowed. If students reach a high enough score they will make the Presidential or National level. Students who achieve Presidential or National in all areas will receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States from the Physical Fitness Council at the end of our school year and can also feel proud about their high level of physical fitness. The importance of keeping your body fit is it will improve your physical and mental health and able you to do more things for the world.
