Text Box: About Me: I have been teaching at I.C.S. for 21 years. 19 of those years were in the first grade. This year I will be instructing our non–average students in Reading. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and a certificate from Fairleigh Dickinson University as an Orton-Gillingham reading teacher.

We are proud to have a special class to serve our non– average students.  This year we will provide additional help in reading, writing and spelling to those students who need it. Testing and progress monitoring will be ongoing to ensure the success of these children.

Text Box: Thank you for choosing Immaculate Conception School.
Research tells us that the sooner a reading difficulty is acknowledged and interventions are provided, the better the chance is for the child to become a proficient reader. We do this at I.C.. Kindergarten thru the third grade children will be tested to determine any weakness in the main indicators for reading success. Once a weakness is determined, interventions will be given and progress will be monitored.
Our reading program emphasizes the 5 areas of early literacy — phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. By identifying shortfalls in any of these areas and providing interventions to correct the problems, we will help each child become proficient in reading.
