What Will the Three-Year-Olds
Do This Week?
5/7 - 5/11/2012
MOTHERS/MARY MOTHER OF GOD
Literature: This week we will focus on our mother. We will prepare for Mother’s Day. Some of the stories we will read are: Just For You by Mercer Mayer, Mamma Zooms – about a mother in wheel chair, Are You My Mother and the story Of Mary’s life.
Craft: The children will be working on their Mother’s Day project. They will also color and decorate a May basket. The all week children will color and cut out shapes to design their own May flowers. The children will also color a “stained-glass window” of Mary. The all week children will watercolor a picture of Mary.
Math: We will review numbers 1 – 10 using various table top games. The children will make a May bonnet of the number 10 – decorating the bonnet with 10 dots/stickers. On Wednesday, the children will work in centers completing different activities involving mommies and their babies such as drawing lines to match them, sequencing games, card games and puzzles, as well as a memory game. They will strengthen find motor skills by tracing the letters in their first name.
Science: Our annual plant sale is on! We will discuss the different kinds of plants for sale. Talk about “annual” plants and what that means. Also discuss how to take care of plants and replanting them in a garden. We will also review stained glass windows for our Mary craft.
Social Studies: We will discuss why we celebrate Mother’s Day and what we can do for mom on this special day. After reading “Are You My Mother?” we will reflect on what our own mother looks like and how we would know her if we saw her.
Religion: Some classes did not get to complete the #22 booklet: I Can Sing My Prayers, so we will work on completing it this week as well as #30, which focuses on Mary, Jesus’ Mother. We will also have our May Crowning on Thursday and Friday with the rest of the Pre K.
Music: This is our last full week to practice! We will be practicing from start to finish each time we practice.
