3 Year-Olds Room 2

Text Box: What Will the Three-Year-Olds
Do This Week?
1/23—1/27 2012
LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!
Literature: Looking forward to at least one snow day! But in the mean time, we’ll have fun indoors learning about snow and ice. We’ll hear stories about snowmen such as Christmas Magic—about two snow people that come to life. We will also read Best Friends in the Snow, The Snowy Day, Oh Snow! and Snow.
Craft: We will be comparing big and little snowmen as we match up the hat, scarf and nose that belong to each. Then the children will paint snowflakes which we will hang in the class room. On Friday, the children will create a snow scene using glue and shaving cream!! Our all week children, will color a family of snow people and glue on buttons that the match the number on their hat. They will also color 7 snowflakes in a snowflake picture.
Math: The children will draw lines to match different snowflakes. Compare sizes big and little. Find other items around the room that compare big with little. Children will complete a testing activity by matching shapes such as diamond, rectangle, square, circle, triangle etc. On Friday, the children will color a snowman by following directions from their teacher. The all week children will match different snowflakes by cutting them apart and gluing together the ones that match They will follow a key to color shapes within a snowflake.
Science: (Taken from last week) The children will learn the steps to make a snowman. They will then make a snowman out of 3 marshmallows and a coffee stirrer. We will make it snow using ice and a grater. We will examine how long it will take the “snow” to melt. Look at pictures of real snowflakes to see that they are made of crystals and that no two are alike. Examine a block of ice: Can we see through it? Learn how ice skates work on the ice. Demonstrate with a real pair of ice skates.
Social Studies: Take videos of the children with their snow people from last week for Catholic Schools Week. Using a globe locate different areas of our world where it would snow. Lastly, discuss and act out some winter activities such as sledding, making snow angels, and snowball fights (we’ll use fluffy, white pompoms!).
Religion: Review the message that God made all of us unique, just like snowflakes, no two are alike, but God loves us just the same. We’ll be thanking God for all the wonderful activities we can do in the snow too!
Music: Pretend we are snowmen—what happens when Mr. Sun shines down on Mr./Miss Snowman?! Play instruments and parade to Frosty the Snowman. Recite finger plays on snow and snowmen. Recite the sledding song and act out the song.
